Apricot and Periwinkle Seaside Micro-Wedding
in La Jolla
Event Details
Ellen is an absolute delight. From our very first phone conversation, I knew she and I would have the BEST TIME planning her intimate family-only micro-wedding. Originally, Ellen and William envisioned hosting a large soiree with their families and friends in their native Texas. Covid-19 altered their plans so they did a complete 180 and they chose to create a family vacation destination wedding to San Diego.
Their wedding took place overlooking the panoramic views of La Jolla Shores at the tippy top in the hills at a private estate. Ellen and I designed her wedding collaboratively - she sent me photos of her gown and the chargers her aunt gifted her as a wedding present. I composed digital renderings to make sure we were on the same page stylistically.
We created a low, growing garden installation for E+W’s I Do’s, for a lush and romantic setting complementing the ocean views of the ceremony site. I incorporated the most exquisite amaryllis stems for her installation piece, bringing our vision of apricot and peach paired with soft powder blue hydrangea, garden roses, delphinium, and nerine lily and the MOST beautiful fruiting olive branches. The olive branches were a last-minute add - by my gosh, if that didn’t just MAKE the whole look chef’s kiss magical.
I ordered flowers from just about every floral vendor at the flower market and even sourced stems from Grace Rose Farm up north. Ellen’s wedding flowers featured an array of floral of varying shapes, sizes, scents, and colors in shades of white, cream, apricot, peach, pink, and periwinkle blue. Their wedding was in October, but it really looked like spring!
My heart fluttered a little when Ellen said she packed custom, white-on-white embroidered linen napkins in her suitcase for the wedding reception. I swear, Ellen and I are cut from the same cloth. The week of the wedding, I emailed Ellen to see if she would be okay if I brought silverware and glassware from my own collection for their dining table. She wrote me back right away with a YES! I styled her tabletop with vintage pearl-handled silverware, etched water and wine glasses, and silver mint julep cups full of dainty, periwinkle muscari flowers. The talented and thoughtful Elaine at Sweetcheeks Baking Company designed a gorgeous two-tier wedding cake featuring palette knife floral decorations. We added a chic floral base around the cake as the final adornment to the candle-heavy dessert table display. It was an absolute pleasure creating Ellen and William’s wedding flowers and I loved LOVED the experience of bringing their day to life.
Ellen and William plan to host a larger reception in Beaumont, Texas in 2021.
